Flash spark plasma sintering of zirconia nanoparticles: Electro-thermal-mechanical-microstructural simulation and scalability solutions

چکیده
Flash sintering is a very promising method with great potential for the ultra-rapid production of objects firing processes mere seconds. However, transition from few millimeters samples to larger scales key issue. In this study, we explore spark plasma approach allowing stable hybrid heating in flash condition and producing near net shape sintered specimens. Two electric current configurations are employed diameters 15 30 mm determine effect scale change concentration. These experiments coupled Multiphysics simulation indicate that conditions can be reached even if electrical concentration effective at small sizes, it generates peripheral hot spots large specimen dimensions. The blackening on zirconia specimens acts then as an indicator thermal history.

Flash (Ultra-Rapid) Spark-Plasma Sintering of Silicon Carbide
A new ultra-rapid process of flash spark plasma sintering is developed. The idea of flash spark plasma sintering (or flash hot pressing - FHP) stems from the conducted theoretical analysis of the role of thermal runaway phenomena for material processing by flash sintering. The major purpose of the present study is to theoretically analyze the thermal runaway nature of flash sintering and to exp...
متن کاملEffect of SiC nanoparticles addition on mechanical properties and wear resistance of cemented carbides fabricated by spark plasma sintering
WC-10Co cemented carbides containing 1 to 4 wt% SiC nanoparticles were prepared by spark plasma sintering. The effects of SiC content on microstructure, mechanical properties and wear resistance of the sintered materials were studied. Microstructural studies showed that SiC addition resulted in WC grain coarsening. In addition, the hardness decreased with increasing SiC content. However, the fr...
متن کاملFabrication of Nanostructured Cu matrix Nanocomposites by High Energy Mechanical Milling and Spark Plasma Sintering
Spark plasma sintering (SPS) is a sintering process that is capable of sintering hard worked powders in short times. This technique was used to fabricate bulk Cu and Cu-SiC nanocomposites. Pure Cu and mixed powders of Cu including 4 vol% of SiC nanoparticles were mechanically alloyed for 25 h and sintered at 750˚C under vacuum condition by SPS method. Microstructures of the materials were chara...
متن کاملSpark Plasma Sintered Hydroxyapatite – Zirconia Composites: Structural and Mechanical Properties
Hydroxyapatite (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) (HAp) is a very attractive material for human tissue implantation, beacuse it makes up ~69% of the weight of bone [1]. Unfortunately HAp posses low mechanical properties (strength, fracture toughness), which is a barrier to its applications in load-bearing situations [2]. The mechanical properties of HAp composites, is based on the synthesis of composites and th...
